40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
SKAN AG was founded in 1968 as a trading company. Since 1993 it has developed from a national trading company with a few of its own manufactured products to an international firm with substantial portion of its own products.
Today, SKAN AG is the world leader in the area of isolator technology for the pharmaceutical industry. Our success is based on innovative products, client specific solutions, professional support and basic scientific work.
MILESTONES IN THE COMPANY HISTORY
1968 | Founding of SKAN AG by Peter Baumann; began as a trading company; product area for hospital equipment, laminar flow equipment and bio-reactors. |
1972 | Took on the microfiltration agency for Gelman Sciences USA. Exclusive agent for Switzerland. |
1972 - 1975 | Development, manufacture and marketing of the first SKAN microbiological safety workbenches; acquisition of various U.S. and EU representatives in Switzerland |
1977 - 1978 | First laminar flow isolator system with integrated, fully automated PES de-contamination system for patient care in the Basel Cantonal Hospital. |
1978 - 1986 | First Isolator for sterility testing for SPF Animal Care |
1986 - 1988 | Planning, construction and occupation of the new SKAN AG building |
1992 - 1993 | Development of the new SKAN microbiological safety work bench. Presented at the 1993 Ilmac show in 1993. Start of a generation of success. |
1993 - 1994 | Introduction of the quality management system ISO 9001; successful certification according to ISO 9001; new definition of SKAN company strategy, with the main construction of SKAN’s own international products. |
1994 - 1995 | First pharmaceutical production isolator for a Groninger syringe machine for Cilag AG Schaffhausen; first aseptic/toxic production filling machine isolator for cytostatic products for Bigmar Lugano. |
1995 - 1997 | Development of the WS2000 laboratory hood in co-operation with Ciba-Geigy AG |
1997 - 1998 | Development of the new generation of SKAN sterility test isolators; development of the SKAN SIS 700, worldwide, the first integrated H2O2 decontamination technology and cycle development methodology |
1998 - 1999 | Begin of the successful international sales effort |
1996 - 1999 | Sterility testing isolators and SIS 700; various production isolators for filling machines; Novo Nordisk DK; Aventis; Novartis; Sanofi; Yamanouchi Japan |

2001 - 2007 | Aseptic production isolators for transfers such as freeze dryer loading and unloading systems equipped with the SIS 700. Successful expansion in Europe for isolator for pre-filled syringes and vials |
2001 - 2002 | Transfer isolators as well as isolators for the loading and unloading of freeze dryers, all equipped with SIS 700. |
2004 - 2007 | Development and successful marketing of the new generation of the ARIS isolators; systems for sterility testing |
2005 | First filling line isolator for aseptic/toxic products in the pharmaceutical industry in the USA, equipped with the SIS 700 |
2006 | Founding of SKAN US INC in Denver, Colorado USA |
